Prime Minister Naoto Kan attended the third meeting of the Task Force Team for the Recovery of the Remains of the War Dead in Ioto held at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the recovery and search of the remains of the war dead based on documents from the United States, and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "I established this task force team after hearing that more than half of the remains of over 20,000 people who lost their lives in the war were left uncollected.
I have received a report that a recent search succeeded in recovering 51 remains. This is equivalent to the number recovered annually. What is more significant is that they were found in the place that a US document describes as a cemetery where enemy soldiers were buried. I hear that many more remains can be found at this site.
More than 60 years after the war, with the remains of many people who had lost their lives in Ioto, which is Japan's territory, remaining uncollected, a major step forward has been taken. I would like to work on the issue with a resolve to recover all remains, with this task force team at the forefront."
