Prime Minister Naoto Kan observed activities held in Tokyo for Suicide Prevention Week.

Every year, the week following World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10 is declared Suicide Prevention Week. Through the intensive suicide awareness activities implemented over the course of the week, the Suicide Prevention Week campaign works to both spread accurate knowledge to the people regarding suicide and mental disorders in order to dispel prejudice, and to promote understanding of the preciousness of life and how one should respond if they notice signs suggesting the potential that someone may commit suicide.
