Prime Minister Naoto Kan received the National Personnel Authority (NPA) Recommendation from Mr. Takeshi Erikawa, President of the NPA, at the Prime Minister's Office.

In regard to national public servants in regular service positions, for FY2010 the NPA has recommended that the Diet and the Cabinet reduce, as a first time measure, the remuneration and managerial allowance of those in their late fifties by 1.5%. In conjunction with this reduction, the NPA has also recommended a reduction of salary schedules and the End-of-Term and Diligence Allowance (bonus), the latter by 0.2 months.

Additionally, based on the spirit of the Basic Act on Reform of National Public Officers' Systems and taking into consideration the situation of employment and income in the private sector, the NPA plans to draw up and propose a recommendation by the end of the year to raise the retirement age to 65 from FY2013.
