Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 11th meeting of the Headquarters against Foot-and-Mouth Disease at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister said in his address, "The restriction on the movement of livestock for the last remaining area around Miyazaki City was lifted today at 0:00 A.M., and Miyazaki Prefecture has just announced the lifting of the state of emergency. I would like to thank again the ministers, members of the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) and the police, and all other people involved at the site for their contributions so far.
I understand that in the areas subject to vaccination livestock can be introduced as early as the end of August, and in a full-fledged manner from September. In order for farmers to restart the livestock trade with a sense of reassurance, I believe it is important to ensure that livestock wastes are thoroughly treated with the sterilization process using fermentation, and to simultaneously extend rehabilitation support. Employment measures are also becoming a big issue, as well as support for rehabilitation of the regional economy targeting related industries, trade and manufacture, tourism, and other sectors.
Although we cannot relax our guard yet, from now on I would like to ask the people involved for their efforts toward rehabilitation of livestock industry, in tandem with the final step toward steadily eradicating foot-and-mouth disease."
