Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 91st meeting of the Council for Science and Technology Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, discussions took place on a policy for the allocation of budgets and other resources related to science and technology in FY2011, an action plan on priority measures in science and technology, and other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his address, "In order to realize the new growth strategy, it is essential to powerfully promote science and technology, which are the pillars of growth. I perceive the action plan reported today as being the first step in the reform of the budget formation process toward realizing the new growth strategy.
I expect the Council to function as a headquarters in promoting the prioritization and streamlining of science and technology related budgets as well, while ensuring that budgets are appropriated where they are truly effective."
