Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the seventh meeting of the Headquarters against Foot-and-Mouth Disease at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister said, "Concerning foot-and-mouth disease, what must be done first of all is to prevent the disease from spreading, for which people have been making the utmost effort. In order to achieve that aim, it is needless to say that we must expeditiously complete the slaughtering and burial of infected and suspected animals which cause the spread of the disease. The next step is to swiftly slaughter vaccinated animals, which I expect to be implemented systematically in thoroughly arranged steps, as has been done for infected and suspected animals. The Cabinet will continue mobilizing its full powers to tackle this issue which presents a grave challenge for risk management."
