Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 4th meeting of the Central Council on Promotion of Measures for Persons with Disabilities at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister received a report and exchanged opinions on the implementation status of the measures for persons with disabilities, focusing on FY2007, as well as other issues related to promoting the welfare of disabled persons, including the review of the Services and Supports for Persons with Disabilities Act.

At the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "The Government has been devising immediate measures concerning the Services and Supports for Persons with Disabilities Act. In addition to this, I intend to make a review of the entire system based on the implementation status to date. Also, we will work to develop domestic laws for the earliest possible ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Japan signed in September of last year. The opinions exchanged today will inspire me as I keep up steady efforts toward realizing a society of mutual cooperation where the people help and support each other with compassion."
