Meeting on Education Rebuilding

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 1st convening of the Meeting on Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

The Meeting was established with the purpose of discussing the modality of education in the 21st century and to follow up the recommendations by the Education Rebuilding Council, which completed its mission with the submission of its final report in January of this year.

Concerning the subjects on the agenda for discussion, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "At the Meeting, I would like, first of all, to discuss how the education system and the environment surrounding children should be in order for them to enthusiastically take the initiative in learning and other activities. Secondly, I ask that discussion take place on the modality of high school education, university entrance examination, and university education, against the backdrop of us entering the era of universal higher education enrollment. Thirdly, I would like the Meeting to follow up the recommendations by the Education Rebuilding Council." The Prime Minister then said, "Based on the discussion at the Meeting, the Cabinet will make sincere efforts toward education rebuilding."
