Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, together with Mrs. Kiyoko Fukuda, departed from Haneda Airport on December 27 to visit the People's Republic of China.

This visit was realized upon the agreement between the Prime Minister and Mr. Wen Jiabao, the Premier of the State Council of China, made in their talks in November in Singapore on the occasion of the East Asia Summit (EAS) and other meetings, in which the two leaders agreed on the Prime Minister's early visit to China. Prime Minister Fukuda is scheduled to meet individually in Beijing with Premier Wen, Mr. Hu Jintao, the President of China, and Mr. Wu Bangguo, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, and deliver a speech at Peking University. The Prime Minister will also visit an economic and technological development zone in Tianjin, and Kongzimiao temple in Qufu, Shandong Province.
