Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held the 11th meeting of the Education Rebuilding Council at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister received a document, entitled, "Education Rebuilding by Society as a Whole - the Third Report: Joint Efforts by Schools, Families, Communities, Companies, Organizations, Media, and the Administration to Rebuild Public Education for Each and Every Child." As its seven pillars, the report calls for: thorough efforts to enhance academic abilities; development of healthy children through moral education and physical education; fundamental reform of university and graduate school education; establishment of a responsibility scheme for schools; creation of a system exploiting people's initiatives directly concerned with education; support by society as a whole for children, the youth and families; and steady implementation of education rebuilding.

In his address, Prime Minister Fukuda said, "Based on the report, I would like to firmly work on education reform to realize a society in which children and people of younger generations can take on challenges toward their future with enthusiasm and hope."
