Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama received a joint statement toward the G8 Summit by the science academies of the G8 member nations from Dr. Ichiro Kanazawa, President of the Science Council of Japan, at the Prime Minister's Office.

The joint statements were compiled toward the G8 Muskoka Summit in Canada by the science academies of the G8 member nations as their recommendations to the national leaders of the participating countries. The joint statements were also announced in each country.

The themes of the joint statement this time were "Health of Women and Children" and "Innovation for Development."
