Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama observed GEINOKADENSHA, the performing arts and culture center located in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo.

GEINOKADENSHA, a joint initiative of Shinjuku Ward and the Japan Council of Performers' Organizations (GEIDANKYO) for the purpose of community building in Shinjuku and promoting culture and arts, was opened in April 2005 using the building of former Yodobashi Third Elementary School in Shinjuku Ward, which was remodeled by GEIDANKYO.

Prime Minister Hatoyama observed a rehearsal hall using an old gymnasium and other features. Afterwards, the Prime Minister said, "I was delighted to observe performing arts activities utilizing an unoccupied school facility today. I appreciate the use of a vacant school building in this way to bolster Japan's cultural potential as a brilliant idea born by joining the enthusiasm of both parties."
