Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama held the fifth meeting of the Government Revitalization Unit at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Hatoyama said, "The most significant change made in the eyes of the people since the inauguration of the new government must have been the establishment of the Government Revitalization Unit and the review of government programs. The government programs were reviewed while the people closely observed the review process, with its results being incorporated in the budget. We think that is the starting point, from which we will further advance reforms together with the people to address issues concerning the budget and reviews of special purpose budget accounts, public interest corporations, and various systems. I call upon you to actively provide advice as the members of the organization taking the lead in the reforms. We seek to establish the legal foundation for the Government Revitalization Unit during the upcoming ordinary session of the Diet, and I sincerely ask for your guidance in that respect as well."
