Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama held the fifth meeting of the Ministerial Committee on the Global Warming Issue at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, discussions took place on the report of results of COP15 and the way to advance comprehensive evaluation and monitoring of the status of implementation of the Kyoto Protocol Target Achievement Plan.

In his opening address, Prime Minister Hatoyama said, "It was good that we made the Copenhagen agreement amidst the interests of developed and developing nations clashing against each other. We, however, must make this agreement to protect our planet even more stringent. By implementing measures to save energy and also through efforts in the business community aimed at meeting aggressive government targets, we will be able to formulate Japan's very wise growth strategy."
