Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama attended the Summit Meeting between Japan and the Mekong Region Countries at the Prime Minister's Office.

The summit meeting was convened with the purpose of further promoting the development of the Mekong region and strengthening Japan-Mekong relations. This was the first meeting of the leaders of Japan and the five Mekong Region Countries. 

The leaders of Japan and the Mekong Region Countries (Kingdom of Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Union of Myanmar, Kingdom of Thailand, and Socialist Republic of Vietnam) attended the first session of the summit meeting on this day.
