Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama attended the first meeting of the new Tax Commission, chaired by Mr. Hirohisa Fujii, Minister of Finance, at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Hatoyama delivered an address, saying, "I call on you to discuss, with utmost sincerity and in the interest of the people, a tax system to be developed for the future of this country, and reach a consensus under the guidance of Chair of the Tax Commission Hirohisa Fujii, the Minister of Finance."

Later, the Prime Minister handed a consultative document to Finance Minister Fujii.
