Prime Minister Taro Aso held the 84th meeting of the Council for Science and Technology Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Council decided upon main researchers and research subjects for 30 projects for the Cutting-edge Research and Development Support Program, a program to promote world-leading cutting-edge research activities in various fields and to ensure that the results of research and development benefit the people and the society.

Prime Minister Aso said, "It is thanks to your efforts that the selection process proceeded in an extremely transparent and fair manner. I would like to extend my appreciation for that. The Council has long drawn upon the wisdom of the people and made various efforts to find a way to maximize the potential of Japan's outstanding researchers. I want [the researchers for the chosen projects] to maintain confidence and strong motivation as they conduct research activities, thereby creating a bright future for Japan."
