Prime Minister Taro Aso held the 4th meeting of the Headquarters for Ocean Policy at the Diet building.

At the meeting, the decision was made on the limits of the continental shelf, among other matters. It was also decided that the Government will submit an application to the United Nations' Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Aso said, "We have been urging the importance of the continental shelf. After five years of efforts, we have finally been able to create a document of significant volume to be submitted to the United Nations. Although it will take years for the document to be finalized within the United Nations, I would like each of you to maintain close cooperation, bearing in mind that this is a matter of our nation, land, and national interests, and make utmost efforts to obtain good results."
