Prime Minister Taro Aso attended the plenary session of the House of Representatives. At the session, deliberations took place on matters including the bill to revise the Law to Strengthen Financial Functions, which enables a preventive injection of public funds into small- and medium-sized financial institutions. The Prime Minister answered questions posed by Committee members.

Prime Minister Aso said, "The current international financial situation is extraordinary. We must enact as soon as possible the proposed bill to revise laws including the Law to Strengthen Financial Functions. I have instructed the Government and ruling parties to formulate measures to support the people's lives, for the protection of the people's everyday lives and the Japanese economy. Those measures will be formulated by the end of this week or so. Likewise, yesterday on October 27 I instructed the ministers concerned and the ruling parties' executives to implement measures to stabilize stock markets, to further strengthen financial functions, and to broaden the base for securities investments. I intend to stabilize financial markets and vitalize the economy by implementing these measures in a prompt manner."
