Ceremony to Present Commemorative Gifts to Members of the Japanese National Team that Competed at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games

Prime Minister Taro Aso invited members of the Japanese National Team that competed at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games to the Prime Minister's Office and held a ceremony to present them with commemorative gifts.

At the Beijing Paralympic Games, held for 12 days from September 6 to 17, the Japanese National Team won a total of 27 medals, including five gold medals.

At the ceremony, Prime Minister Aso presented a commemorative gift to each of the four gold medalists and 10 representatives of top-eight finishers.

In his address, Prime Minister Aso said, "Congratulations on your remarkable achievements at the Beijing Paralympic Games. I would also like to thank you from my heart for the encouragement and excitement you provided to all the people of Japan. I want to tell you that your achievements have left much greater influences than you may think. With all my heart, I wish you all further success in the future."

Afterwards, Prime Minister Aso enjoyed talks with the team members and praised their efforts at the Beijing Paralympic Games.
