Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received an interim report of the Inspection Committee on the Pension Record Problems from Mr. Kunihiro Matsuo, the Committee Chair.

The Committee was established in June under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications with the purpose of examining and investigating the processes that led to the occurrence of the current problems surrounding the nation's pension records, as well as the locus of responsibility.

Chair Matsuo explained to the Prime Minister that the enormity of the number of unidentified pension records, 50 million, and the unreliability of information in the database in particular are causing the people anxiety over the pension record problems.

In response, Prime Minister Abe said, "I would like the Committee to further investigate the causes of these problems and clarify the responsibility."
