Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the second country on the tour of the Middle East.

Arriving at Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, Prime Minister Abe was received with a welcome ceremony. After the ceremony the Prime Minister paid his respects at the tomb of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late President of the UAE.

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Abe held talks with His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, at Mushrif Palace. At the meeting, the two leaders confirmed their intent to strengthen bilateral relations at all levels in a broad array of fields. They also decided to launch the ministerial Japan-UAE Joint Economic Committee and discussed issues such as the situation of the Middle East, United Nations Security Council reform and North Korean nuclear and abduction issues. Following the meeting, Prime Minister Abe attended a luncheon hosted by the President.

In the evening, Prime Minister Abe visited Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) units stationed in Abu Dhabi to address and give encouragement to the personnel currently engaged in fuel supply operations in the Indian Ocean under the Anti-Terrorism Special Measures Law. In the late evening, Prime Minister Abe addressed an economic seminar and met with the Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan before attending a dinner hosted by the Crown Prince.

On April 30, the following day, Prime Minister Abe visited a Japanese school in Abu Dhabi and moved to Dubai, where he held talks with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Afterwards, the Prime Minister attended a luncheon.

After completing his itinerary in the UAE, Prime Minister Abe left for Kuwait, the next country to be visited on the tour.
