Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the graduation ceremony at the National Defense Academy located in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

In his address, Prime Minister Abe congratulated the graduates, saying, "In the face of crises you may encounter in the future, it will not be enough to merely look left and right to seek clear-cut solutions. In times of necessity you will need to collect a range of information from diverse sources and analyze the situation precisely to make accurate decisions based on what you believe.

The backbone of such an ability lies in a broad perspective and a high level of cultural accomplishment. This idea is embodied in the educational policy of the National Defense University, which has been bestowed in turn upon each class of cadets: to develop broad perspectives, acquire scientific thinking, and cultivate a deep sense of humanity.

It is my sincere hope that each of you will continue to be devoted to your endeavors in both the literary and military arts to accomplish your goals as officers of the Self-Defense Forces. I also expect that you will maintain high levels of discipline and morale to pursue your duties in the noble mission for world peace and stability, embracing the belief that bravery is found in the pursuit of justice."
