Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Mr. Juan Evo Morales Ayma, the President of the Republic of Bolivia, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Abe praised President Morales' commitment to alleviating the gap between rich and poor and expressed his hope that Bolivia would sustain fundamental values such as freedom, democracy and market economy. Prime Minister Abe further said he would support appropriate efforts for reform. President Morales in response expressed his gratitude for Japan's cooperation through channels such as debt relief. He also said that he would like to build strategic relations of cooperation with Japan, a country that places importance on people's daily lives and the environment.

Prime Minister Abe asked President Morales for his support for the early realization of the United Nations (UN) Security Council reform, including the appointment of Japan as a permanent member of the Security Council, as well as for Japan's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council in the 2008 election. President Morales responded on behalf of Bolivia that he would like to support Japan at the election.
