Prime Minister Shinzo Abe consulted with Mr. Masaaki Honma, the newly-appointed Chair of the Government Tax Commission, on a modality of the taxation system at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Abe said, "I will endeavor to strengthen the international competitiveness of Japan's economy and contribute to its vitalization. I will at the same time reduce expenditure thoroughly. Even after taking these measures, for the increase in burden caused by social security services and the declining birthrate, we must secure stable funding sources so as not to shift the burden onto the shoulders of future generations."

Afterwards, Prime Minister Abe handed over a written agenda for consultation to Chair Honma.
