Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Mr. Elias Antonio Saca Gonzalez, the President of the Republic of El Salvador, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Abe said, "I understand that this is your first visit to Japan. Last year marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and El Salvador, and our bilateral relations continue to be excellent. I am convinced that the visit by the President and Mrs. Saca will further enhance the development of our bilateral relations."

During the meeting, Prime Minister Abe indicated his intention to further strengthen relations with El Salvador and other countries in Central America through the implementation of the Tokyo Declaration and the Action Plan, which were adopted at the Japan-Central America Summit Meeting held last year. In response, President Saca expressed his gratitude for the various forms of assistance extended by Japan to El Salvador.

President Saca furthermore expressed his strong support for the United Nations Security Council resolutions passed in response to the missile launches and nuclear test by North Korea.
