Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 1st meeting of the Headquarters on the Abduction Issue with all Cabinet members in attendance, including Mr. Yasuhisa Shiozaki, the Chief Cabinet Secretary who also assumes the post of Minister of State for the Abduction Issue.

Prime Minister Abe began by stating in his address, "The abduction issue is a violation against the sovereignty of Japan and the lives of its people, and is an issue that we categorically cannot condone." He also said, "It is the purpose of this headquarters to make the utmost efforts to achieve the return of every one of the victims abducted by North Korea."

Afterwards, the members of the headquarters discussed issues such as the current status of the abduction issue and policies to be taken in response to the situation.
