On September 30, 2020, the Prime Minister delivered an address to the staff of the Office for Preparing Digital Transformation Promotion Bills.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

“I thank everyone here for joining us towards establishing an agency in charge of digital transformation. We will get rid of bureaucratic sectionalism and boldly advance regulatory reforms. I believe that digitization will greatly transform the socio-economic activities in Japan as a pillar of our new strategy. We intend to submit the necessary bills to the ordinary session of the Diet next year, while accelerating the consideration of the contents of the reform by the end of this year. The reform will begin right here, in this office. I ask you to exert every effort to materialize the reform that takes us to the future, without thinking about the interests of the ministries or agencies you are from as well as following past practices. As Minister Hirai assumes the position of the head of this office, I am sure that you all share his enthusiasm. In closing, I have a high hope that you will do your utmost with a strong determination to start the great transformation of the economy and society of Japan from here. Thank you.”
