Condolence Message from Prime Minister Abe to President Rouhani of Iran

Following to the devastating damages caused by the earthquake that struck near the border between Iran and Iraq on November 12 (local time), Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, conveyed the following message of condolence to His Excellency,  Dr. Hassan ROUHANI, President, the Islamic Republic of Iran on November 14, 2017:

1.      I am deeply grieved and saddened at the news of the earthquake that struck western Iran recently, affecting a large number of Iranians and causing the loss of precious lives.

2.      On behalf of the Government of Japan and the Japanese people, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and express my heartfelt sympathies to all who have been affected.

3.       Japan and Iran are both highly earthquake-prone countries, and Japan received swift support from Iran at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Japan is ready to provide assistance to Iran in the form of emergency relief goods and other aid.

4.      I pray that activities providing relief to the disaster victims proceed smoothly and that peace and security are restored to the citizens of Iran as quickly as possible.
