On August 24, 2020, the Prime Minister spoke to the press at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Regarding his tenure becoming the longest in terms of consecutive days in office as a Prime Minister of Japan, among other matters, the Prime Minister said,

“In politics, what is asked is not how many days you have been in office, but rather what you have achieved. During these seven years and eight months, we have devoted every effort day by day to implement the policies that we have promised to the people and to deliver results. I believe that I am able to welcome this day thanks to the accumulation of daily efforts. We owe everything to the strong support we have received from the people at national elections. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to them. I also wish to express my gratitude to everyone who has all too graciously lent me their support, in spite of these very challenging times.

Today, I received the detailed results of the medical test I took last week and also underwent a follow-up test. I intend to do my utmost to take care of my health and continue to give my all in my work.”

Responding to a question from a reporter, the Prime Minister said,

“I have undergone the follow-up medical test today. I will speak about that at a later date.”
