On July 9, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister said the following with regard to the lawsuit relating to Hansen’s disease (leprosy),
“It is true that some parts of this ruling are difficult to accept. At the same time, we should not prolong the suffering of the families who have endured hardships that are beyond description. With this in mind, while it is a rare case, we have decided not to appeal against the ruling. I have instructed the relevant ministers to respond accordingly following this decision.”
