On June 7, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 25th meeting of the Headquarters on Creating Dynamism in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Industries and Local Communities at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, discussion took place on the state of progress on key measures in the Plan for Creating Dynamism in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Industries and Local Communities and newly identified policy issues, among other matters.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

“Agriculture is the foundation of a nation. With these words firmly engraved in our hearts, the Abe Cabinet has been advancing policies to create dynamism in agriculture, forestry and fishery industries as well as local communities.

Our efforts have started to deliver results steadily, including the increase in the revenue of the agricultural industry for three consecutive years. In order to cement such trends more firmly, we will further refine the policies that we have been enhancing over the past six years, and promote them more strongly than ever before.

We are seeing record-breaking exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery produce over six consecutive years. In order to increase them further, it is necessary to strengthen our efforts to address food safety regulations overseas fundamentally. To that end, we will swiftly develop new systems and prepare for a legal framework.

Smart agriculture holds the trump card to strengthen the agricultural industry. We will realize highly productive agriculture, even in flat areas or mountainous areas, utilizing robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Agriculture and welfare collaboration enables persons with disabilities to succeed in the agricultural industry or agricultural villages. We will formulate a new vision and expand the scope of such collaboration.

This autumn, we will initiate the revision of the Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas. The Abe Cabinet will continue to exert every effort towards a new era of the agriculture, forestry, and fishery industries to which young people can entrust their futures. I ask for the cooperation of all relevant ministers.”
