On April 11, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the Ministerial Meeting on the UK Exit from the EU.

At the meeting, a discussion was held regarding a situational analysis and information sharing in relation to the issue of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

“At this moment, the consultation between the EU27 and the UK at the Special European Council regarding the latter’s withdrawal from the EU has not yet concluded.

While it is necessary to assess the future developments, the Government will exert every effort on market stabilization and advance collaborations with the relevant countries, taking into consideration the risks that might impact the global economy and financial and foreign exchange markets.

Minister of Finance Aso is leaving to Washington D.C. to attend the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting. I ask you to monitor the future development and take appropriate measures, when necessary, continuing close cooperation with Governor Kuroda, and that the Government will make all possible measures in unity to respond flexibly, closely monitoring the situations.”
