On January 16, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the “Vermeer: Making the Difference – Vermeer and Dutch Art” exhibition being held in Tokyo.

With regard to his impressions from the visit, the Prime Minister said,

“Four or five years ago, when I visited the Netherlands, I saw several works of Vermeer. This exhibition, which brings together works by Vermeer from around the world, presents a truly precious and magnificent opportunity. I am very happy I was able to make this visit. I was moved by the splendid detail of the paintings. As each painting has its own story and inspires the imagination, seeing such genuinely beautiful works up close enriches our hearts. Thank you very much.”
