On December 11, 2018, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 33rd meeting of the Administrative Reform Promotion Council at the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the meeting, a discussion took place on the summaries of the FY2018 “Autumn Review” and other matters.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

“I would like to express my gratitude to everyone on this Council for your cooperation on this year’s ‘Autumn Review.'

Administrative reforms are an important measure for improving policy effectiveness and maintaining the trust of the people in the Government. In implementing various projects using taxes paid by the public as the Government, we must make constant improvements so as to make them more effective and efficient. I believe that this Review, the outcome of which will become available to the public, provides an important opportunity to that end. As Council  member Morita pointed out, it is necessary to explain to the public the impacts, the positive impacts of these measures from a policy perspective, such as improving the standard of services and enhancing Japan’s competitiveness as well as enriching individual lives along with eliminating wasteful use of taxes and using taxes more effectively. I would also like to express my gratitude for your cooperation in this regard.

Today, as Minister Miyakoshi reported, the Council covered a wide range of topics, including the management expenses grants for national universities, which are an important key that affects the foundations of Japan’s growth.

As Deputy Prime Minister Aso commented, we will reflect the outcome in next fiscal year’s budget appropriately and work diligently to further improve the Government’s projects.

Furthermore, I intend to work on policy management going forward, certainly taking into account the points made by the members of the Council today. I would also like to ask the members of the Council for your continued cooperation.”
