Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press occasion at the Prime Minister's Office.

In regard to his telephone talk with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, the Prime Minister said,
"I have just held a summit meeting over the telephone, during which I had an in-depth exchange of opinions on the North Korea situation with President Trump.
I stated that I highly valued the stance of President Trump, which is exhibited through his words and actions, that all options are on the table.

Moreover, we fully agreed that we will strongly urge North Korea, which is still repeatedly undertaking acts of dangerous provocation, to exercise self-restraint.
The nuclear and missile issues posed by North Korea are not only global challenges, but are also an extremely grave threat to the security of Japan.

The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group began joint exercises with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) from yesterday. Japan will steadfastly respond to this issue while continuing to closely collaborate with the United States and maintaining an elevated vigilance and surveillance structure."
