Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the ceremony to present the Prime Minister's Commendation to gold medalists in the ninth International Abilympics, held at the Prime Minister's Office.

Following statements from the awardees, the Prime Minister said in his address,

“My true congratulations to both gold medalists. I am truly proud as a Japanese citizen that the results of your diligent efforts to hone your skills over many years have been recognized by the world.

The aim of the efforts we are currently advancing for the creation of a society in which all citizens are dynamically engaged is to build a society in which all people can truly advance further in life, be they men or women, young or old, or people with disabilities. It will be a society in which all people can advance even further toward their dreams. As we aim to create such a society, you have enjoyed success on the global stage and been recognized for your skills. I believe that your achievements have provided encouragement to many people.

As a country built on monozukuri (manufacturing), Japan has always respected people who acquire masterful techniques through diligent practice. I believe that the development of Japan thus far has been supported by such masterful techniques.

I hope that by receiving these awards, you will be encouraged to further polish your skills and work even harder. Once again, congratulations.”
