Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 11th meeting of the Strategic Headquarters for Space Development at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Work Schedule of the Basic Plan for Space Policy (FY2015 Revised Version) and other topics were discussed.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

“Today we have revised the Work Schedule of the Basic Plan for Space Policy.

We will advance the space field as one pillar in our productivity reform aimed at achieving a GDP of 600 trillion yen. In particular, we will support the private-sector use of space development, which is rapidly spreading as a result of technological progress.

We are establishing mechanisms to promote the creation of new businesses and services that operate through the use of satellites, such as automated vehicles and the automated driving of agricultural and construction machinery.

I will submit the Space Activities Act and Satellite Remote Sensing Act during the next ordinary Diet session.

We will cultivate overseas markets for Japan’s outstanding space systems.

I would like Minister Shimajiri to steadily implement the Work Schedule we have revised today, and to advance this ‘space strategy on the offensive,’ in coordination with the relevant ministers.”
