Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the World Assembly for Women in Tokyo (WAW! Tokyo 2015).
First, Prime Minister Abe received a courtesy call from participants of WAW! Tokyo 2015 visiting from North America and Europe. Afterwards, he attended a luncheon.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister gave a speech at the opening of the Public Forum, and then listened to the keynote speeches .
Following that, Prime Minister Abe received a courtesy call from participants of WAW! Tokyo 2015 visiting from Asia, Oceania, Central and South America, the Middle East and Africa. He also attended a photo session with student volunteers.
Lastly, the Prime Minister attended a reception and dinner banquet. In his opening address at the reception, the Prime Minister made the following remarks,
“Good evening everyone. Welcome to WAW! Welcome to Japan.
This is the second time that WAW! has been held. The scale of this event has been considerably enhanced compared to last year. Even the venue itself is about three times the size of the one in which I gave my speech last year.
The venue in which I gave my speech today is extremely memorable for me. It is the same location where my wife and I held our wedding ceremony 28 years ago. I never thought at that time that we would be working together toward the creation of a society in which all women shine.
I too have had much to learn in working toward the creation of a society in which all women shine. For instance, there can be no doubt that including women in decisions will always bring about a good result. That is true for my household, it is true for my party, it is true for my cabinet, and I believe it is most likely also true for companies.
This year at WAW! we have gathered together people who have truly been playing a major role in changing the world.
With all of you together here under one roof, one can really feel the power you have to make a major change in the world. With us today are women active in many different fields.
Tomorrow’s theme is “WAW! for All.” In other words, it is about working toward the realization of a society where everyone shines, both men and women alike.
There will be discussions on industry, academia, development, welfare and other issues from a variety of perspectives, and I also hope to listen to each session myself.
In order to create a better world, we must realize a society in which all women shine.”
