Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the opening ceremony of the Iwatani Hydrogen Fuelling Station in Shiba Park, held in Tokyo.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

“Congratulations on the opening of the Iwatani Hydrogen Fuelling Station in Shiba Park. At long last, the first true hydrogen station has been opened in the heart of Tokyo. This is symbolic of the dawn of a true hydrogen society.

Under the Abe Cabinet, we revised all the relevant regulations in one fell swoop, realizing the commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell cars and hydrogen stations for the first time anywhere in the world. In less than a year following that, the decision was made to create 76 hydrogen fuelling stations across the nation. The creation of a hydrogen fuelling station infrastructure is moving forward at a speed and scale unlike anywhere else in the world. Without a doubt, I believe we can say that Japan has become a front-runner in the hydrogen energy revolution.

I would like to conclude my congratulatory remarks with the promise that we continue to rev up the hydrogen revolution, together with everyone in attendance today, at an even greater speed.”
