Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the ninth meeting of the Strategic Headquarters for Space Development at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Basic Plan for Space Policy was decided.

Based on the decision, the Prime Minister said in his address,

“The Basic Plan for Space Policy that was decided today has achieved a long-term and concrete plan fully based on new security policies.
As the future basic policy of space policy, it is a historical turning point.
This plan concretely specifies the number and year of preparation of quasi-zenith satellites that will be required over the coming decade. In this and in other ways, I am confident it will enhance the predictability of industry investment and also contribute to fortifying the space industry’s foundations.
Going forward, the ability to breathe life into and powerfully implement the Basic Plan for Space Policy will be tested. As such, the control tower functions of space policy must be further strengthened. I want to promptly move ahead with creating the necessary frameworks for steadily implementing the Plan.
I would like Minister Yamaguchi to lead efforts by the relevant agencies and ministries and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to solidly implement this plan. Thank you very much for your cooperation.”
