Prime Minister Shinzo Abe conducted a drill for countermeasures against novel influenza and other diseases at the Prime Minister's Office.

The drill was based on a scenario in which an outbreak of novel influenza A (H7N9) is confirmed overseas. The drill also involved the operation of the government response headquarters.

Based on the drill, the Prime Minister said in his address,

"Novel influenza countermeasures are an important issue related to the health of the Japanese people. The whole Government must take all appropriate steps to carry out such countermeasures.
I believe that the situation will continue to change. I would like to place the utmost priority on the safety and peace of mind of the public, and calmly exert every effort for appropriate responses at appropriate times."
