Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the fifth meeting of the Advisory Committee on Cultural Exchanges in Asia at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, a proposal was submitted to the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address,

"Thank you very much for attending the meeting today in spite of your busy schedules.
When I visited Southeast Asia in January of this year, I presented five principles of Japan's ASEAN diplomacy. I believe you have discussed specific measures regarding the fourth principle, 'Protecting and nurturing Asia's diverse cultural heritages and traditions,' from a broad range of perspectives.
'Creating a new Asian culture' is one of the pillars of the new Asia policy of the Abe administration. I have been looking forward to receiving your recommendations.
Today, I would like to hear about the recommendations in detail from all of you and hope to use these recommendations to form the backbone of my ASEAN policy going forward. Thank you."
