Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the second Ministerial Council on Tokyo's Bid to Host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and the 2020 Paralympic Games at the Prime Minister's Office.

At this meeting, opinions were exchanged on future preparations toward the opening of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address,

"Two days ago, at the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Tokyo was selected to become the host city for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In making a bid for the Games, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), currently active athletes and others worked as one, with the Government also united for support.
Our success this time is thanks to the people of Japan truly joining together as 'Team Japan.'
If we work together, our dreams will come true. I believe that together with the public, we have experienced that.
I also want to commend the spirited efforts of the people of Madrid and Istanbul, both of which competed with Tokyo this time.
The moment that the final vote was decided, as promised, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdog?an, Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, rushed over to hug me and express his joy about the bid of Tokyo in Japan. I think that is also something that we Japanese must not forget.
The real work now begins toward the opening of the Games in 2020. Japan's responsibility as the host country is that we must ensure that the world's top athletes can perform to their very best.
In addition, this will also be the perfect opportunity to present to the world a Japan that has succeeded in reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, and to have visitors from overseas experience the magnificence of Japan through our supreme hospitality.
Furthermore, we will spread the Olympic movement across the world.
We must move forward with preparations swiftly and steadily over the coming seven years.
The Government too will establish a system to lead the Tokyo Olympic Games toward great success, and thoroughly offer support.
I ask that the relevant ministers make proactive efforts.
Also, as I made a promise in Buenos Aires, I want the Government to unite in its efforts and thoroughly fulfill our responsibility for the issue of contaminated water and other matters. I ask for everyone's cooperation"
