Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the 12th meeting of the Regulatory Reform Council at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, discussion took place on the "International Top-Runner Test" and the processing status of the regulatory reform hotline. Following this, a report on regulatory reforms was compiled, and Mr. Motoyuki Oka, Chair of the Council, submitted the report to the Prime Minister.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said in his address,

"Since the launch of this Council on January 25, I have asked the Council to examine regulatory reform by giving precedence to reforms which will contribute to economic revitalization, including in the three sectors of health and medicine, energy and the environment, and employment. I would like to sincerely thank the Council for compiling regulatory reforms, which number around 130.
Regulatory reform is the utmost priority of the 'growth strategy,' one of the three prongs of Abenomics.
Reforming regulations which stand in the way of hard-working people and companies from reaching their potential will bring back fresh vibrancy to Japan. This is what I have stressed.
I believe you have prepared a report that took this spirit to heart.
The Abe Cabinet is a cabinet that translates ideas into action. Based on this report, I am determined to immediately formulate the 'regulatory reform work plan' and implement as quickly as possible the reforms that the Council has compiled.
At the same time, this report is no more than a first step towards the realization of the growth strategy. There is no end to the regulatory reforms of the Abe Cabinet. That is my understanding.
In the next cycle as well, with a view to revitalizing the Japanese economy, I would like to ask for your cooperation in taking dynamic steps to implement even more bold regulatory reforms which will promote the structural reform of the economy.
The rest is up to those of us in the political and administrative spectrums, and I am determined to ensure that we fully fulfill this responsibility."
