Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a request from groups representing the war dead, at the Prime Minister's Office.

Receiving the request, the Prime Minister said in his address,

"We must obviously make progress on efforts to collect the remains of the war dead who travelled to faraway lands and perished, thinking only of Japan.
On April 14, I will visit Iwo Island. The Government hopes to have the remains of as many people as possible returned to their hometowns at the earliest possible time."
