Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from Dr. Joseph Eugene Stiglitz, Professor of Columbia University, at the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

"We are currently aiming to overcome deflation by carrying forward policies in three different dimensions, namely bold monetary easing policy, flexible fiscal policy, and a growth strategy.
Although this kind of policy has not been a mainstream idea in Japan, there had been a comment of support from Professor Stiglitz when I was making a point on such policy, which I felt was very encouraging.
We have been asking for the help of Professor Hamada as an advisor to the government. I had received his advice before making proposals on this policy, and during that time I also heard about the theory of Professor Stiglitz.
The issue we are tackling is to create a situation where many people can enjoy the fruits of economic growth."
