Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the sixth meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on issues such as the image of the country to be aimed for from the perspective of economic and fiscal policies, and the improvement of fiscal quality.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

"Today, there were proposals from the private-sector members on the image of the country to be aimed for from the perspective of economic and fiscal policies, and on expectations on the growth strategy. The proposals will also be suggested to the Industrial Competitiveness Council, wherein the growth strategy is being discussed. At the same time, as for the 'decade of recovery,' which is one of the proposals made this time, we would like to further deepen the discussion, for example in the form of a scenario for the 'decade of recovery,' so that it can be presented to the people in an easy-to-understand manner, and utilize the concept in the compilation of Basic Policies and the growth strategy.
Policy evaluations can be referred to as the 'infrastructure of policy,' for improving the effect and quality of policies. Based on today's discussion, I would like to ask Minister Shindo to further consider how to increase the effect of policy evaluations even more, including the mechanism of the evaluation on regulation.
Regarding the e-government and e-local government, after clarifying the reasons why they are making little progress, I would like the Minister in Charge of Information Technology Policy to take the lead, in cooperation with Minister Shindo and Minister Motegi, for the early realization of an e-government and e-local government that are efficient and progressive.
I would like to ask Minister Inada to consider the effective way to implement the review of administrative programs reported today."
