Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches (IFCMA) Ministerial Dialogue (Summary)

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who attended the OECD Meeting of the Council at Ministerial Level (MCM), participated in the Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches (IFCMA) Ministerial Dialogue. It was held on 2 May at 9:50 a.m. local time (4:50 p.m. JST). Ministers from OECD member countries and others were present at this dialogue as well. The overview of the meeting is as follows (speech transcript attached).
 
1. Secretary General Cormann expressed his appreciation for Japan’s commitments toward the IFCMA, including co-hosting the Ministerial Dialogue. He also expressed that OECD would continue to contribute to the acceleration of climate change measures in each country through better data, information sharing, analysis and dialogue, and by advancing new analysis on sector- and product-level carbon intensity metrics.
 
2. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida Speech
(1) Prime Minister Kishida introduced that Japan has supported OECD’s IFCMA, which is open to all countries regardless of OECD membership, since its establishment. He also expressed support for the newly launched Ministerial Dialogue.
(2) He also stated that Japan would continue to support the IFCMA and outlined Japan's efforts, including the promotion of Green Transformation (GX).
(3) Furthermore, he called for all countries to work together on climate change, in cooperation with the OECD.
 
3. The OECD Chief Economist, Ms.Clare Lombardelli provided an overview of the IFCMA’s progress, and ministers and others from the participating countries actively exchanged their views in order to further accelerate efforts to combat climate change.
